Headset knowledge, how much do you know!
The headset components are: headset cover and screws, flower core, gasket, upper cover, upper bead nest, upper cup, lower cup, lower bead nest, base and other parts, which together form a headset series. So, what kinds of headsets are there? According to whether they can be hidden, they are divided into three categories: external headsets, semi-integrated headsets, and integrated headsets.
1. External headset: It means that the bearing or loose beads cannot be hidden in the front pipe diameter. The reason is generally that the difference between the front pipe diameter and the front fork head pipe is too small to accommodate the bearing or loose beads. And it has high requirements for sealing and is easy to be polluted by the environment.
2. Semi-integrated headset: It means that although the bearing or loose beads can be completely hidden in the inner diameter of the front tube, it must be fixed by washers and backing rings. Because the bearing (bead file) is built-in, it is dustproof and waterproof.
3. Integrated headset: refers to the bearing or loose beads (bead bowl required) can be completely hidden in the inner diameter of the frame head tube, and the outer diameter and inner diameter of the bearing type bearing can withstand the head tube and rigid tube. It is a headset structure generally used for high-end road vehicles pursuing lightweight.
The headset is a rotating assembly that connects the front fork, the handlebar and the frame head tube, and allows the front fork and handlebar to move freely in the frame head tube. A good headset can make the connection between the front fork and the frame more perfect, and the force is more balanced. A good headset can slow the impact of the front fork on the frame.
Care and maintenance:
As the rotating part of the bicycle with the greatest force and the lowest speed, the headset has a very high durability. Generally speaking, no special maintenance is required, just keep the headset clean.
1. Gap adjustment: The gap adjustment is particularly important. Too small a gap increases wear. If the gap is too large, the amount of frame will appear, and the related parts will be easily damaged. The headset gap is adjusted to allow the head to rotate flexibly and the headset washer is fixed without gaps
2. Clean and waterproof: Generally, headsets have a certain degree of airtightness, and generally do not require special maintenance except for serious wading.
3. When replacing the front fork, please confirm whether the model specifications match.
